Taiz Youth Governor and Deputy Police Chief launch the first phase of the Juvenile Section Rehabilitation Project at the Central Correctional Facility 🔧🏗️

Ayman Abdul Salam Razaz, the Governor of Youth and Children affaires in Taiz, alongside Colonel Adnan Al-Saqqaf, Deputy Director General of Taiz Police, and Eng. Mutahar Al-Shamiri, President of Assistance for Response and Development (ARD-Y), officially inaugurated the first phase of the Juvenile Section Rehabilitation Project at the Central Correctional Facility. The initiative is supported by Saferworld – Yemen Office and implemented by ARD-Y 🌍.

🛠️ The project includes renovating the building, fully restoring the bathrooms, and furnishing the juvenile ward with bunk beds, mattresses, and new blankets—aimed at improving the living environment for juveniles in detention.

The team also visited the long-neglected carpentry workshop within the facility. ARD-Y stressed the importance of conducting technical assessments and submitting proposals to donors for its rehabilitation and reactivation 🔨. The workshop is considered a vital resource for engaging inmates in productive work and equipping them with valuable vocational skills.

👂 During the visit, the delegation listened to Colonel Issam Al-Kamil, Director of the Correctional Facility, who gave a comprehensive briefing on inmates’ conditions, needs, and the challenges in providing essential services—highlighting the facility’s limited resources amid rising inmate numbers, and calling for unified efforts to ensure sustained support.

🚶‍♂️ The tour also included inspections of various facility sections, including the juvenile ward, where the team reviewed the quality of food and services and identified urgent needs that must be addressed.

The launch event was attended by Deputy Governor for Administrative and Technical Affairs, Eng. Moath Ali Al-Shumeiri.
